Evolution of a Hair Graft month by month

How much hair grows month by month after a hair transplant? This is one of the most frequent questions our patients ask us, as they are eager to see results as soon as possible. We show you the evolution of a before and after hair transplant through images.

First week post hair transplant

As can be seen in the images, the first week after the hair graft, the area is slightly swollen. This happens during the first three days, and is a completely normal effect. This inflammation caused by the hair grafting can last until the sixth or seventh day.

During this first week, small blood clots can also be seen, these are the points where the follicle has been incised and will disappear between the fifth and seventh day.

Second week after hair transplantation

Two weeks after the hair transplant operation, the swelling will have completely disappeared. The follicles of the grafted hair will begin to create a slight crust at the points where the incisions have been made. It is important that only the fingertips are used to wash the treated area until 21 days after the hair transplant operation.

First month after hair transplant

During the first month of the hair transplantationAfter the third week, you can see that the operated area is slightly reddened, this can last for several weeks. From the third week onwards, the patient will start to lose the transplanted follicles. During the fifth month after the hair graft, the patient will begin to notice a "rebound" in their hair growth. This phase will be characterised by an increase in hair length (between 5 and 7 centimetres) and an improvement in volume. Between these months, patients may notice that their hair roots become thicker and thicker.

From the eighth to the tenth month, patients who have undergone a hair transplantation in Turkey will be able to observe a further increase in their hair growth. The hair will already be much longer and stronger (thicker). The result that patients will observe in this phase is practically the definitive aspect that their hair will have.

Final stage of hair grafting, 12 months later

Do I have to remain hospitalized after the hair transplant?
Hospitalization is not necessary. The treatment lasts several hours but it is not compulsory for the patient to spend the night in hospital. Afterwards, post-intervention observations and treatments will be carried out, so that we can corroborate the state of the scalp, if the implantation has been completely correct, etc.

When is the final result after a hair transplant visible?
After 1 week, maximum 10 days we will start to see how the first hairs start to grow.

Can I cut my hair after a graft?
It is not advisable to cut your hair (with scissors) until at least one month after the operation. Once this stage has passed, you can cut, wash and style your hair as you wish.

For the use of hair clippers, a reasonable time of one year is recommended for the recipient area and six months for the donor area.

What is a donor area?
The donor area is the area from which we extract the hair follicles. It is usually the nape of the neck, although sometimes we also take hair from the parietal area.

Are hair implants temporary or permanent?
