Published Australian pricing puts a hair transplant between AUD 5,500 and AUD 28,500 depending on the extent of the work. In practice:

- Per graft — commonly AUD 3 to 12 across the market, with doctor-led clinics sitting around AUD 5 to 7
Two things are true regardless of where you have it done: cosmetic hair transplantation attracts no Medicare rebate, and it is not covered by Australian private health insurance. It is an out-of-pocket cost either way, which is why the comparison below is a straight one.
What does it actually cost to have it done in Turkey, flight included?

The flight is the honest addition. A return fare from Sydney or Melbourne to Istanbul is a real cost and not a small one. Even so, the package plus the flight lands comfortably under half of a typical Sydney quote — and unlike an Australian quote, there is no accommodation, transfer or aftercare bill on top.
We are not going to pretend the saving is the whole story. If price were the only consideration, the sensible advice would be to find the cheapest clinic in Istanbul, and that is precisely the advice that produces the results people post about online.
Is there a non-stop flight from Australia to Istanbul?
No, and it is worth planning around this properly.
Turkish Airlines flies Sydney to Istanbul via Singapore, five days a week on an Airbus A350-900, and Melbourne to Istanbul via Singapore three times a week. The stopover in Singapore is around five and a half hours on the northbound service.
The airline has announced non-stop Sydney flights for late 2027 and Melbourne for 2028, once its A350-1000 aircraft arrive. Until then, plan for a one-stop journey of roughly a full day each way.
How long should Australian patients stay?
Patients from Europe manage a four-day trip comfortably. From Australia we recommend six to seven days. The reason is not the surgery — it is the flight.
- Days 1–2 — Travel and arrival. Rest properly before the procedure rather than going straight from the airport to the operating chair
- Day 3 — Consultation and hairline design with Dr. Çelik, then the procedure. Sapphire FUE takes 6 to 8 hours under local anaesthetic; DHI takes 6 to 9. It is completed in one day
- Day 4 — First wash and aftercare instruction at the clinic
- Day 5 — Rest, final check
- Days 6–7 — Fly home
Flying long-haul immediately after surgery is uncomfortable and unnecessary. Giving yourself two nights after the procedure before a 20-hour journey is the single easiest thing you can do to protect the result.
Who performs the surgery?
In many high-volume Turkish clinics the surgery is carried out by technicians. The doctor consults, plans and supervises, but the hands extracting and placing your follicles frequently are not a doctor’s.

This matters more than the price. Graft survival depends on extraction angle, depth and how quickly and carefully follicles are handled between removal and placement. Those are surgical judgements made thousands of times in a single session. If you are flying 16,000 kilometres, the variable worth flying for is who is holding the instrument — not the invoice total.
Is it safe to have a hair transplant in Turkey?
The decisive safety variable is not the country, it is the operator. Istanbul contains both the most experienced hair restoration surgeons in the world and clinics that will hand you to an undertrained technician. Both exist within a few streets of each other.
What to verify before booking anywhere, including here:
- Will a licensed doctor perform the surgery, or only plan it? Ask directly and ask for it in writing
- How many procedures are done per day at the clinic? High daily volume is the reliable warning sign

What happens once you are back in Australia?
Aftercare in the first ten to fourteen days has a direct effect on how many grafts survive, and you will be spending most of that period at home, roughly eight time zones away.
You leave Istanbul with a written protocol, the medication you need and a demonstration of the washing technique. From Australia you stay in contact with the clinic by WhatsApp, with twelve months of follow-up included. The timeline is predictable: transplanted hairs shed at two to four weeks, which is normal; new growth appears from around month three; and the result is assessed properly at twelve months.

Can I combine the trip with a holiday?
Many patients do, but the order matters. Sightseeing before the procedure is fine; sightseeing in the days immediately after is not, because sun exposure, sweating and knocks to the recipient area all put grafts at risk in the first two weeks. If you want to extend the trip, extend it before surgery or on a separate leg after the first fortnight.
How many grafts will I need?
Sapphire FUE can place up to 4,000 to 5,000 grafts in a single session depending on your donor density; DHI typically places 2,000 to 3,500. The right number is determined at consultation from your donor area and pattern of loss, not chosen from a price list.
What if I need a second session later?
Some patients with advanced loss do. We will tell you at the assessment stage if we think one procedure will not achieve what you are picturing, rather than discovering it together at month twelve. That conversation is worth having before you book a flight from Australia.
Is the equipment the same as in Australian clinics?
