How much does a hair transplant cost in Canada?
More than most Canadians expect, and it depends enormously on which province you live in. Published pricing puts the cost per graft between CAD 3 and CAD 10 nationally, and the total varies by up to 250% across the country:
- Toronto — CAD 4 to 6 per graft, averaging CAD 5. A typical session of 2,500–3,000 FUE grafts comes to CAD 7,000–9,000, plus 13% HST
- Ontario and Quebec — CAD 7,000 to 14,000 for an average session
- Vancouver — CAD 8,500 to 18,000; CAD 3.50 to 7 per graft
- Alberta and British Columbia — CAD 18,000 to 21,000, plus applicable provincial taxes
Two points that quotes rarely put in the headline figure. Sales tax is added on top — 13% in Ontario is roughly CAD 1,000 on a CAD 8,000 procedure. And no provincial health plan covers it: hair restoration is classed as cosmetic, so OHIP, RAMQ, MSP and their equivalents pay nothing, and private plans generally do not either.
What does the same procedure cost in Turkey?
Our all-inclusive package starts from €1,990 for Sapphire FUE and €2,390 for DHI. It covers the surgery, hotel accommodation in Istanbul at the clinic’s own address, all transfers, medication, the aftercare kit and twelve months of follow-up. No tax is added on top and there is no accommodation or aftercare bill afterwards.
The flight is the honest addition. Even including it, the total sits well below a Toronto quote and nowhere near a Vancouver or Calgary one — where the gap is large enough that Canadian patients from those provinces sometimes fly to Istanbul for less than the tax on a domestic procedure.
That said, price alone is a poor reason to choose a clinic in Istanbul, and we would rather you did not choose us for that reason. The section below is the one that matters.
Is there a non-stop flight from Canada to Istanbul?
Yes, from three cities. Turkish Airlines operates non-stop service:
- Toronto (YYZ) → Istanbul — approximately 9 hours 30 minutes
- Montreal (YUL) → Istanbul — 9 hours 15 minutes
- Vancouver (YVR) → Istanbul — 12 hours
This makes Canada considerably easier to plan than Australia or New Zealand, where the journey involves a stopover. From Toronto or Montreal you can leave in the evening and be at the clinic the following day, with no connection to miss.
Who performs the surgery?
This is the question that actually separates clinics in Turkey.
In many high-volume Istanbul clinics the procedure is carried out by technicians. The doctor consults, plans the hairline and supervises — but the hands extracting and implanting your follicles are frequently not a doctor’s. This is legal in Turkey and it is extremely common. It is also the single biggest reason results vary so widely between clinics that look identical online.

Graft survival depends on extraction angle, depth and how carefully follicles are handled in the minutes between removal and placement — surgical judgements made thousands of times in one session. If you are flying across the Atlantic, that is the variable worth flying for.
How long should Canadian patients plan for?
Because the flights are direct, a four to five day trip works comfortably:
- Day 1 — Fly from Toronto, Montreal or Vancouver, transfer to the hotel, consultation and hairline design with Dr. Çelik
- Day 2 — The procedure. Sapphire FUE takes 6 to 8 hours under local anaesthetic; DHI takes 6 to 9. Completed in one day
- Day 3 — First wash and aftercare instruction at the clinic, rest
- Day 4 — Final check, then fly home
Patients flying to Vancouver may prefer to add a fifth day, since twelve hours in a seat two days after surgery is more tiring than nine. Redness and swelling settle within five to seven days, and most patients are back to their normal routine within five.
What happens after you fly home?
Aftercare during the first ten to fourteen days directly affects how many grafts survive, and you will spend that period at home, seven to ten time zones away.
You leave Istanbul with a written protocol, the medication you need and a demonstration of the washing technique. From Canada you stay in contact with the clinic by WhatsApp, with twelve months of follow-up included. The timeline is predictable: transplanted hairs shed at two to four weeks, which is normal and expected; new growth appears from around month three; and the result is assessed properly at twelve months.
One Canadian-specific note: if you travel in winter, protect the recipient area from extreme cold in the first fortnight the same way you would from strong sun. Hat, loose, no pressure.
How do you choose safely from 6,000 km away?
The decisive safety variable is not the country, it is who operates. Istanbul contains both the most experienced hair restoration surgeons in the world and clinics that will hand you to an undertrained technician, sometimes on the same street.

Frequently asked questions
Will OHIP or my private insurance cover any of this?
No. Hair restoration is classed as cosmetic, so provincial health plans such as OHIP, RAMQ and MSP do not cover it, and private plans generally do not either. It is an out-of-pocket cost whether you have it done in Canada or abroad.
Do I pay tax on top of the package price?
No. The package price is the final price. In Canada, sales tax is added to the quoted cost — 13% HST in Ontario adds roughly CAD 1,000 to a CAD 8,000 procedure — which is worth including when you compare.
How many grafts will I need?
Sapphire FUE can place up to 4,000 to 5,000 grafts in a single session depending on your donor density; DHI typically places 2,000 to 3,500. The right number is determined at consultation from your donor area and pattern of loss, not chosen from a price list.
Is the equipment the same as in Canadian clinics?
Yes. Sapphire blades and Choi implanter pens are the same instruments used by doctor-led clinics in Toronto and Vancouver. The price difference reflects Turkish salaries, property and operating costs — not cheaper materials or shortcuts.
Can I fly home the day after surgery?
We do not recommend it. The day after the procedure includes the first wash and aftercare instruction at the clinic, which is the part with the largest effect on graft survival. One extra night materially improves your result.
